Third Tournament, Third Win
Three tournaments, three wins! Our third event of the season was another very successful one for us.
After the tournament in Oakville, we drove around five hours to Cornwall on Tuesday. We used the opportunity to practise at the Cornwall Curling Club both that evening and again on Wednesday morning.
It quickly became clear that we would be facing some unusual conditions that week. The event was played with brand-new stones that had never been used before and had also been freshly sharpened. As a result, the stones behaved very differently from what we are used to. At times, we even had to play take-outs just to get a stone into the house.
Conditions like these are always challenging. For us, the key was to accept them, analyse them and make the best possible adjustments. In the end, every team was playing on the same ice and with the same stones.
In addition to adapting to the unusual playing conditions, we also had to make significant tactical changes and temporarily move away from our usual style of play.
We managed to win our first, very defensive game. In our second group game, we once again faced Team Skrlik, just as we had in Oakville, and suffered a loss. In that game, we struggled a lot with the ice and stone conditions.
Afterwards, we analysed the game in detail and discussed which adjustments we needed to make. Those changes paid off. We won our next three group games and qualified for the quarterfinals in third place after the group stage.
In the quarterfinal, we faced Team Einarson. It was a very close and exciting game, but in the end we were able to secure the win. We also won the following semifinal.
